WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an Item level Upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrader kit level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will show a preview of the item upgrade when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or item level Upgrade complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
