Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
