However, unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we test the i3+ does not have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is low it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. When connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of cordless vacs that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model feels like an automobile. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and an Wand clip. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests show. This is a standard battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size but not long enough to cover every spot (though an additional run-through often will suffice). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in a robot. It could pick up most types of debris in our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is able to better maneuver its own. It also has a larger dustbin and can charge faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a stronger motor, and can perform better on floors with low pile and bare.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app offers a variety of customization options for your robotic vacuum cleaner commercial cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is easy to use and understand as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks, which was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we've tested and could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
